Join the William Bee Ririe Hospital each year by participating in October's
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides the perfect opportunity to educate the public about breast cancer screenings. The month is also designed for supporting those battling the disease, honoring survivors, calling attention to medical milestones, and raising funds for further outreach and research.
In 1985 the event began as a week-long campaign, utilizing news reports and brochures as well as testimony to Congress about the importance of access to mammography. The event's impact increased with televised public service announcements by former first lady and breast cancer survivor Betty Ford and her daughter Susan Ford Bales.
The awareness week grew into an awareness month, and now includes participation from all types of organizations, businesses, government agencies, medical facilities and schools.
The risk of breast cancer is real. Breast Cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women, after skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that 178,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 62,030 cases of in situ bnreast cancer will occur among U. S. women in 2007. About 40,460 women will die from it. But, thanks in large part to early detection and improved treatment, breast cancer deaths in women have steadily decreased since 1990.
The William Bee Ririe Hospital and Rural Health Clinic is proud to continue to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness by offering mammograms at a cost of $50.00 during the month of October, which does not include the radiologist reading fees. For a mammogram appointment please call 775-289-3467 extension 241.
